Datel on their retail page, CodeJunkies.com, has opened up the product page for their new product, the Wii Freeloader. The product claims to be able to allow games from other regions to play on any Wii, regardless of where it originated from. This includes both Wii and GameCube games.
No information has been released on how firmware upgrades will effect the operation of this however. Although the product is available for purchase immediately ($19.99) on the CodeJunkies.com site, no release date seems to have been announced either. Other retail outlets are pointing to March for a release.
I would tread carefully when looking to purchase this as those questions will be important should Nintendo feel they need to "fix" this. Hopefully though, this is either a permanent solution for those looking or something else comes along to help importers.
If Nintendo wanted to allow imported games on the Wii, it wouldn’t be region-locked. The only way this thing can work permanently is either with coding that matches standard Wii and GameCube games or with an included USB accessory that can be updated and then plugged into one of the USB ports on the Wii to enable the FreeLoader without comprimising the Wii itself.
