Nintendo E3 2008 Media Briefing

I’m not sure what to think exactly. On the one hand, Nintendo’s in its casual mood and certainly gave us some casual titles, but overall I’m not really disappointed with what I saw. Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars and Call of Duty: World at War and a couple others like that were announced, and those aren’t too bad for core gamers. On the other hand, we were told we’d see several things that the core gamers would really appreciate, and I can’t really say that they delivered. Maybe we’ll see something show up later in the week, but I wouldn’t put money on it. In any case, it’s still a much better conference than last year.

NintendoGal wasn’t too surprised by the offerings such as Wii Sports Resort, Wii Music and Animal Crossing: City Folk, but it’s nice to see things like Grand Theft Auto on the DS; I’d love to take another look at that. Wii Sports Resort is clearly trying to wedge itself in between core gamers and casual gamers, but I think it’s going to lean much farther to the latter than Nintendo expects. The only title I was really excited about that I saw was Animal Crossing. I look forward to taking another look at that. Otherwise, I think third parties are going to be helping the Wii out a lot this year; they’re finally starting to step up with some great titles, many of which NintendoGal will be checking out over the course of the conference. Stay tuned to see impressions over the next couple of days.
