Although I didn’t get to sample Tetris Party for long, it was a welcome change of pace to me and the other females gathered around to play. Competition generally is fierce when ever I’ve played Tetris but the relaxed atmosphere made it an enjoyable experience.
During the session, it was a free for all play meaning, every woman for herself. If you’ve played Tetris DS, it’s quite similar in regards to controls. The only real differences are the power-up usage button which is triggered by the B button and the hold piece by using A. Also worth noting is the fact you’ll probably want to hold the controller sideways to play.
Using attacks on other players seemed a bit more vicious than other Tetris games I’ve played in the past. One in particular stopped time for the other players making it so they couldn’t do anything. This can become costly if the person using it is quick enough to rid themselves of a few lines, thus stacking more lines on other players. Another attack clouded the field of vision so everyone else needed to shake their controller to clear it away. Not a huge deal, except it delays you from making moves.
There are numerous versions of Tetris available and it’s nice to see one set itself apart from the others. I believe this version is one that can appeal to both casuals and hardcore Tetris fans just due to the numerous amount of modes. I’ll be looking forward to the release of this one, so have those Friend Codes ready to trade with me!
Unlike numerous others around the internet, I had never head of Cave Story prior to the announcement at the summit. After my brief sampling of the game I’m not sure why it’s so highly regarded.
I had the misfortune to begin playing the game no where near the beginning and with no explanation. It wasn’t hard to figure out how to move around and shoot, but I didn’t know why I was doing such a thing. I’d use my weapon which I assume was a gun to blow up blobs that were headed in my direction. When I destroyed them they’d drop what appeared to be Triforce shaped power-ups but I saw no benefit. Some sections had enemies that could destroy you with just one touch and I learned to avoid them by timing my runs just right.
Admittedly, it was fun to jump around and destroy things back and forth for awhile. Unfortunately since that was the only action I really performed I can’t say much about the game for now. Perhaps with a fresh start when it releasessince I haven’t played the first two and was run through those. With that said, if you enjoy Strong Bad E-mails, I can’t think of a reason to not at least check out the first game. Media for the latest episode however has been uploaded so be sure to check it out!
