Nintendo had Wakefield Research conduct a survey among 400 children about math last month. The findings according to Nintendo indicate that math isn’t that well loved in the U.S. A few findings of the survey were:
– One in five believe they’ll grow up to become a professional athlete, actor or singer than they are to get A’s and B’s in math next year.
- More than one-third of kids surveyed say that math is their most difficult subject.
- Nearly one-third of kids have very negative feelings about math: 18 percent called it "boring," while 13 percent actually called it "torture."
- 86 percent of parents surveyed say that math is important to their careers, even though more than half of them admitted they thought they’d never need the math they learned in school.
These findings have set the stage for Nintendo to release a new title in the Personal Training line of DS edutainment. Personal Training: Math ships to stores today and hopes to help make the subject fun again.
Well I happen to agree with those parents that say that math is important for careers from personal experience. There have been times where a few strange techniques on solving a problem came in handy.
