All year Nintendo has been doing extremely well in the sales department, and in December they still pulled through even with the economic situation at hand. Just how well? Enough to break and set a new record for Yearly Unit sales breaking their previous own record. The Nintendo Wii sold 10.17 Million units in 2008 alone. The Nintendo DS came close to 10 million sales bringing in 9.95 Million sales.
Both systems beat the last record the Nintendo DS set in 2007 in which it had sold 8.52 Million units.
Those numbers are astonishing to me. Though I myself had purchased a new DS Lite in 2008 so I guess I helped in some small way.
My husband got me a Wii for Christmas. He had a hard time finding it in person and ended up having to order one. When he told me this, I said "Still?!?" So, knowing that, I’m not terribly surprised. But, still, that’s a HUGE amount of systems to move.
