Ever had the urge to pick up a microphone and belt out your favorite Disney Channel Star songs? Whether you want to or not you have the opportunity to do just that in Disney Sing It. Preferably with less belting and more accurate singing.
What can you expect in Disney Sing It? Nothing more than a fancy Karaoke simulator in which it allows you to sing one of thirty-five of you or your kids favorite Disney Channel songs. Ranging from Aly and AJ’s "Potential Breakup Song" all the way to the most recent "One World" from The Cheetah Girls 3: One World movie. In between they throw in High School Musical, Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana, Jesse McCartney and even a Billy Ray Cyrus song (minus Miley duet).
As stated the game is a simple Karaoke game. It has a single player option and a multiplayer option. Single player allows you to jump into singing or try your hand at a few different options. If you think you know a song well enough you can opt to do pro mode which will just play the song and video and you can’t see the note highway to know how you’re doing; you’ll receive your score at the end. Another option is to do vocal training exercises. This is not meant to make you a pop-star but they will help you learn techniques to improve your score in game. They’re absolutely ridiculous to perform and I couldn’t stop laughing the entire time I was doing it.
What would have been a great aspect to the game would have been a story mode of sorts. Anything even if it was linear and it was some cliche rise to the top from nothing story line but we didn’t get anything like that. It’s a shame too as that would have made the game just a tad more entertaining to play instead of having every song from the beginning and just letting you go hog wild.
When selecting a song you’ll see a preview video of the song if you rest on it long enough. Select a song and you’ll be given a couple options; which part of the song you want to sing and the difficulty. The difficulty doesn’t necessarily make the song harder or easier. Instead what they do is change the thickness of the note highway, thus making it harder to hit the highway and score points. Though I found on easy difficulty it was slightly too easy to hit the note highway as all I had to do was breathe sometimes to get it to hit even some notes. For kids it’ll be perfect to get them singing and scoring points right away until they can move onto the other difficulties.

In the multiplayer options you can battle someone, duet with someone or switch on and off. These all require two mics to do and could not be tested. One option that could be tested is Duet with single mic. Duet with single mic is exactly how it sounds, you choose a song and you and one other person take turns passing the mic back and forth singing different parts of the song as indicated by your color on the screen. It’s easy to know when you’ll need to hand off the mic because as you’re singing a little timer shows above the words indicating how long until the next persons part is.
What it comes down to overall for the game though is getting a group of people together and having a fun time either playing the multiplayer aspects or making up your own little games to play with the options available to you. One thing I found interesting to play with my sisters was to sing a song and then pass the mic off. The next person would sing the same song and rinse and repeat until everyone has sung the song. Then you see who got the highest score for it. It’s great competition and fun for everyone involved. Just make sure you really like the song because you’ll be listening to it quite a bit.
Graphically Sing It can’t be truly appreciated due to the nature of the game. Unless you know the song you’ll be too busy looking at the note highway and the lyrics to notice the video running in the background. For everyone else watching, the video is basically just eye candy. Menus are clean looking and are not overly complicated. Sound in the game is as to be expected. It’s clear and understandable. The only real sound comes from the audio of the songs, with little sounds coming from the menus.
Unless you’re absolutely determined to beat your high score or just like to sing Disney Star songs I can’t see this lasting anyone a real long time. There’s no substance to the game and it gets dull rather fast. If there was a story mode then that would have made it more interesting but there isn’t. If you have Disney Channel obsessed kid who would absolutely love this game by all means get it. I can’t see anyone else enjoying it though.
