BAFTA Releases Game Award Nominees
The British Avademy of Film and Television Arts announced today their list of nominees for the 2009 BAFTA Video Game Awards. While Wii Sports swept the show last year with six awards, this year Nintendo’s top award contenders are Mario Kart Wii, Super Mario Galaxy, and Wii Fit with several nominations each. Here’s a list of all the Nintendo games nominated for awards (including multiplatform):
Advance Wars: Dark Conflict (Days of Ruin in the US) – Best Strategy Game
Boom Blox – Best Casual Game
Geometry Wars: Galaxies – Best Handheld Game
Guitar Hero: World Tour – Best Casual Game
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass – Best Handheld Game
Mario Kart Wii – Best Gameplay, Best Multiplayer
Ninjatown – Best Strategy Game
Professor Layton and the Curious Village – Best Handheld Game
Rock Band – Best Gameplay, Best Multiplayer,Best Game
Super Mario Galaxy – Best Gameplay, Best Use of Audio, Best Game
Viva Piñata: Pocket Paradise – Best Strategy Game
Wii Fit – Best Sports Game, Best Casual Game
You can take a look at the full list here. BAFTA also gives out a Game of the Year award based on public opinion; you can vote for your Game of the Year pick here. Keep in mind that eligibility is based on European release dates, so some games will appear to be out of place at first glance.
I feel kind of weird voting for a different country’s awards, personally. That didn’t stop me from doing so, though. Also, I’m surprised Ninjatown is up for an award; I should play that.
