If you, like many others, were looking forward to erasing ghosts by taking their pictures sometime this year, prepare to be disappointed. Tecmo, the developer of Fatal Frame IV, has released a statement regarding the game’s release in North America:
“Nintendo holds the publishing rights to ‘Fatal Frame Wii,’ which was developed by Tecmo LTD. and Grasshopper Manufacture and released in Japan on July 31, 2008. Nintendo of America has since then decided not to publish the title in North America – consequently, the title will not be released in this territory. As the owner of the IP, Tecmo feels very unfortunate that the fans of the series in North America will not have a chance to play the game, but respects the final decision made by Nintendo of America.” – Tecmo rep
The game apparently won’t be released in Europe, either. This is a disappointment not only for fans of the series, but for fans of Suda 51, as Grasshopper Manufacture helped to develop the title.
It’s disappointing that, despite being a practically recession-proof company, Nintendo still isn’t willing to take any risks.
