Last week, the famous Game Boy received an obscure but honorable accolade: induction into the National Toy Hall of Fame. The Game Boy is the second game system to make it into the Hall of Fame, joining the Atari 2600. The Strong National Museum of Play cited the Game Boy’s efficient design, multiplayer capabilities, and excellent gaming lineup; Tetris and Super Mario Land were both mentioned. According to their website, the Game Boy is "synonymous with portable gaming fun."
By the way, the other inductees this year were the Big Wheel and the ball. Yes, the ball. If you think that’s odd, previous inductees include "cardboard box".
Well, it’s certainly earned its keep. If there was no Game Boy, we may still be putting 6 AA batteries into our Game Gears.
