Last year in the UK Bayer, the health care company you probably see advertising medicine on TV all the time, released a blood glucose monitoring system called DIDGET to help kids with diabetes want to check their blood-sugar level. They say it’s too early to tell if it’s been a success in the UK, but regardless, they plan on releasing it in the US next month.
How it works is after the child has taken the blood sample and gotten their readings, they can sync the DIDGET system up to their Nintendo DS or DS Lite (DIDGET uses the GBA slot, so DSi and DSi XL are out of the question). Upon syncing the systems together the kids are rewarded for good testing behavior and for keeping in the target blood-sugar level with points, which they can use in the adventure game packaged with DIDGET.
No specific release date has been given aside from the month of May. If a release date is given before it’s out, we’ll make sure to update with it.
If there’s one way to get a kid to do something it’s usually to reward them for it. Sounds like this could be a hit with the kids as well as the parents who may not have to wrestle their kid anymore to take their blood.
