“Wii Party” Announced

Wii Party has been announced, and it seems like it will be a blend of both Mario Party and Wii Sports/Play.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has announced a new title for the Wii called “Wii Party”. The game has been said to include mini-games such as “International Vacation Game,” “Mii Jyan,” roulette and “Balance Ship”. These won’t be all of the mini-games included of course, and they will all feature your Mii’s! Why Miis? Well, according to a recent survey, 160 millions Miis have been created in Japan, the U.S. and six countries in Europe. Because of this, Iwata sees no reason not to create a game that features the Miis.

Iwata said “As you know, ‘Wii something’ are the titles that we use only with software that Nintendo has developed exclusively for Wii with the aim to make them marquee titles for Wii. We are developing this game with the aim to make it a marquee party game for Wii.” This quote gives you a general idea on which way Nintendo is headed with this idea, so I would expect it to be somewhat like their previous “Wii (Something)” titles, just with a Mario Party twist. He also said “Since Wii is usually being played by several people at once and the global sales of Mario Party have reached 7.6 million units, a party title has great potential. This is one of the titles which, we hope, will play an important role for this fiscal year.”

With the Mario Party series doing quite well and gaining popularity, I really can’t predict my thoughts on this franchise. I liked it how in Mario Party you could use the already-created characters, but could also bring in your Miis. With this game coming out, Nintendo will find out how many people actually use their Miis when they play Mario Party. Also, we’ll have to see more about the game at E3, especially if Iwata thinks it will be one of their leading titles. What do you think?
