Nintendo Confirms Pokemon Black & White Characters and Location

Nintendo has updated the Japanese site for Pokemon Black and White with information concerning starters, characters, and the setting for the game.

Since the announcement of Pokemon Black and White our information on the game has been limited to a few fuzzy pictures and some video taken from the popular Japanese show Pokemon Sunday. That changes today, however, as Nintendo has updated the Japanese site for Pokemon Black and White with a few pictures detailing the characters, setting, and a few of the ball-bound companions for the next game in the series.

The three starters, as seen above, are again comprised of the same types that every Pokemon game has had you start off with. You’ve got Pokabu, Mijumaru, and Tsutarja, who are fire-, water-, and grass-types respectively. It’s worth noting, of course, that these are probably not the names we’ll see in the localized version of the game. For now all I can tell you is to expect lots of puns based on the animal they look like and the element they represent.

In addition to the starters, we also learned a little about the region the next game will take place in. It goes by the name of Iishin, and is supposed to be pretty far from regions used in past games. That makes sense, since it looks a whole lot more industrialized. The site describes it as being an area where man and nature are in harmony with each other, which sounds like a pretty rad place to be.

We also know what the main characters look like, as seen below. They’ve clearly got just as much fashion sense as the characters from Diamond and Pearl and are supposedly older than previous characters, apparently in their mid-to-late teens.

So, what do you think? Still busy with HeartGold and SoulSilver, or does the latest influx of information have you ready for the next game? Personally I’m ready for the next iteration. I’m curious to see if they correct some of the problems I’ve had with the past few Pokemon games(yes, I know how to catch wild Pokemon already. You don’t need to explain it again). Plus I’m a little stoked about the new starters; that grass lizard looks just self-satisfied enough to earn a permanent spot in my party.
