April 2010 NPD Group US Sales Numbers

Though we’ve lost a couple of statistics, NPD still brings us what we want to know this month.

This month, NPD is only offering up sales numbers for the top five games; the Bad Company 2 and SSFIV numbers come from 1Up. Additionally, they’ve stopped announcing PS2 sales, though frankly I imagine that the PS2 outsold the PSP this month.

While Nintendo dominates the list this month, the entire gaming industry saw a sharp decline versus this same time last year; notably, the DS sold far fewer unions, since the launch of the DSi in April 2009 caused sales of over a million units. Additionally, Easter happened in March this year, instead of April like it did in 2009, and on the whole, casual games had a poorer showing than last year. Nevertheless, the industry is not in any sort of state of emergency, and the DS is still on track to become the best-selling system in history, topping the Playstation 2.
