E3 2010 Impressions: Interworks

Accessory maker Interworks had not only hardware to show off, but software.

The first thing I saw at the Interworks booth was a copy of a DSi title called Photo World. The game is exclusive to the DSi, since its purpose is to allow you to manipulate photos taken by the DSi camera. From what I could see, it offers more manipulation options than the DSi itself, but it was hard to tell since I didn’t get to see the game itself in action, just its box. The game also lets you send photos to your computer, or upload them to your Facebook account. Photo World is due for release this October.

The other product was a knife gun holder for the Wii remote and nunchuk, which was designed chiefly for the Resident Evil: Chronicles series. Unlike the Wii Zapper, the remote and nunchuk are held in separate hands; the nunchuk has a small attachment that turns it into a knife, without obscuring the buttons. The right hand is a standard gun controller, but with two triggers instead of one; the Knife controller provides the player with a trigger to hit the A button as well as one for the B button.

The dual-handed nature of the device prevents you from using the directional pad on the remote, though, which allows for quick weapon switching in-game; whenever one makes a gun container, though, there are going to be some concessions, and I prefer easy access to the A button, myself. This controller will be available later this year.
