This month saw an interesting discrepancy: while Nintendo placed Toy Story 3 in spot #6 and Wii Fit Plus in spot #7, NPD had the two of them reversed. They didn’t provide sales numbers, though, so we’re going with Nintendo for now, but the fact that the two don’t agree is an interesting one.

For the second month in a row, the popular Red Dead Redemption beat out Super Mario Galaxy 2 for the top spot; Nintendo was happy to fill out another five places on the list, however, with a mix of third- and first-party titles. The big surprise this month, however, is in hardware; for the first time in ages, the Xbox 360 has outsold the Wii. This might be due to the introduction of the Slim, or the apparent markdown of Arcade systems, but the real question is whether or not this lasts. If the 360 continues to have those strong sales going into the holiday season, we could have an interesting battle on our hands.

Also, the PSP had a bit of a sales pickup this month, after a couple of months dropping underneath 100,000 units sold. The DS continues to lead the pack, as it usually does; I wonder if the 3DS will take up the mantle of its predecessor. This holiday season is going to be a fun one to watch.
