PAX Prime 2010 Day 0

In a few hours, thousands of gamers will be flooding the Washington State Convention & Trade Center.  Yesterday I picked up my badge and decided to get a sneak peak at whatever I could get my eyeballs near.

Before I even got into the Convention Center proper, I noticed many black Enforcer t-shirts various individuals were wearing.  Enforcers for those who have never attended PAX are volunteers who help staff the event.  This year however the shirt color of those helpful individuals won’t be black, but blue since many attendees seem to prefer the former themselves.  Inside I found it quite easy to navigate through, the calm before the storm.  Exhibitors and staff alike were busy moving boxes to and fro while dodging the few on-lookers such as myself.

Although setup was proceeding, you wouldn’t know PAX was less than a day away with the situation.  I only saw a handful of signs, mostly related to either tabletop gaming or the fact the event was sold out.  It made sense though, no point in getting prominent signs up that would simply clutter the way while you’re trying to load in supplies and other essentials to the area.

A few banners that I did manage to get a good look at were in the main valley of escalators in the south hall.  The one that stood out in my mind was Back to the Future, though there were others just as colorful.  In front of the Exhibitor’s Hall was a Tom Clancy’s HAWX 2 poster being hung in front of a lighted sign.

While in front of the Hall, I peaked inside as much as I could without completely irritating the Convention Center employees.  There wasn’t much to see aside from tons of boxes being unloaded and a few displays that were already hung and in sight.  This was the story from all the angles I peaked at.  With all the space that is now dedicated to companies showing off their wares, it’ll be tons more exciting than what I experienced today.

Where were Gabe and Tycho while all of the setup was happening?  It appears they’re more than happy to leave it to the experts and instead do what they do best, game.

Check out the videos I took today along with the rest of the photos I managed to snap.
