In not even three days after release, the new Pokemon titles Black & White have already been named the “fastest selling game of all time”.
For those of you who were not-that-surprised about how soon Black & White would be releasing in Japan, then here’s an actual shocker: Black & White have been officially dubbed the fastest-selling games of all time. Gathering a total of 1.7 million pre-orders in Japan, most retailers were surprised when most ran out of the game over the weekend. 2,637,285 copies were sold in the opening weekend in Japan, breaking the record of the fastest-selling game of all time. Doing significantly better than past Pokemon games released, I think it has to do with the exclusivity of the new features per version. With the new gym leaders, areas, and exclusive Pokemon, it really doesn’t seem impossible that most people bought a copy of each version, and then went from there. Despite whether the audience bought one of each version, Nintendo was forced to shut down the Pokemon Global Link after only a day of release due to the amount of overload on the servers.
For those of you getting a bit anxious, Pokemon Black & White are set to release Spring 2011, so get out the old Pokemon games you own and start preparing yourself (I already have)!
