To nobody’s surprise, August belongs to Madden NFL 11. Besides that, we have the usual Nintendo mainstays, and a not-unexpected appearance from Modern Warfare 2, in addition to the other new release of the month, Mafia II. Software sales seem pretty standard.

On the hardware side, though, the Xbox 360 is the sales leader again this month, bolstered both by Madden and its redesign. It’s possible, also, that Nintendo is reaching the saturation point with its systems; the Nintendo DS will have outsold the PS2 by the end of the year if it hasn’t already, and there just aren’t that many people around, even if Nintendo is reaching out. Perhaps the 3DS will see similar success upon its eventual release?
