Mario’s true first name and the Famicom CPU selection process.
In the latest installment of Iwata Asks, Mr. Iwata talks to two individuals, Masayuki Uemura and Hiroshi Imanishi, about their roles in the development of the Famicom. In the interview, Mario’s previous names were revealed as first Ossan (middle-aged guy), then Mr. Video, to Jumpman, and finally he arrived at Mario. Other interesting facts include the involvement of electronic company Ricoh and the selection of the Famicom CPU. There are five volumes to read through and are available at Nintendo’s website.
It was also interesting to read how hard-lined Hiroshi Yamauchi was to the people working for him when he really wanted something to happen.
