Unfortunately, no decent hardware information this month. We do know from other sources that the Xbox 360 sold around 325,000 units this month, and has become the best-selling console so far this year, the the Nintendo DS is likely still ahead. As Kinect makes a major splash, I’m sure those numbers are going to increase significantly next month.
As it turns out, sports are very popular around this time of year. NBA 2K11 takes the top spot, while FIFA, Madden and Smackdown vs. Raw round out the bottom of the list; each of them are available on the Wii, but most likely the Wii edition was not the best-selling one. One Wii title did make a major splash, though, as Just Dance 2, the sequel to last year’s surprise hit, hits the #7 spot on the sales chart. Besides that, the major new releases dominate the month as they were expected to.
There are some interesting absences here, though. While it’s no surprise that Rock Band 3 didn’t chart, as it was only out for five days, there’s neither hide nor hair of Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, which came out at the end of last month. Also failing to chart was Kirby’s Epic Yarn, which was released about halfway into the month, and Wii Party, which was available for nearly the entire month of October. Are shoppers waiting for closer to Christmas, are the multi-console titles overwhelming Nintendo’s exclusives, or is interest in Nintendo Wii simply waning? We’ll have to see.
