The World Has Gone Bananas for Donkey Kong

No. Seriously.

All across the globe, people are gearing up for the international release of Donkey Kong Country Returns. This first started when select GAME and Gamestation stores in the UK gave twenty people a copy of the game for a bunch of bananas.

The Currency of Donkey Kong

Then, halfway across the world in Australia, Donkey Kong’s Hoard appeared in Sydney’s Circular Quay. The five meter tall, 10,000 banana tall mound was placed their by Nintendo Australia for the release of our furious ape’s game. Nintendo AU hosted an event at 5:30 to play the game on a huge monitor and gave out the bananas to anyone who wanted. Then, any remaining bananas would be given away to the OzHarvest, which gives away excess food to the needy.

It also seems that Donkey Kong has taken notice of his missing banana hoard and took a bite of The Big Banana Coffs Harbor sign, mistaking it for one of his own.

This is so awesome. Glad to see that some people are really excited for this game and that those bananas didn’t go to waste.
