Satoru Iwata today gave his keynote address at the Game Developer’s Conference. During the speech, he talked about his time in the industry, from college to where he’s at now. In case anyone though that Nintendo had forgotten that it is the 25th Anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, Iwata mentioned that they are working on a way for everyone to celebrate the event, but gave no further details.
He also revealed a new Super Mario game that is currently in the works along with four screenshots and a logo. The logo has a tail at the end of the o in Mario and Iwata commented that the details of this would be revealed at E3 this year, but what is known is it is being developed by Nintendo EAD.

Reggie Fils-Aime also took the stage at one point and announced the following:
Netflix on Nintendo 3DS
3D Movie Trailers
Short-Form Video Service
“3D Classics” video games remastered in 3D.
3D Video Recording
10,000 AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spots
Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console will include Game Gear & Turbografx 16 titles
Ocarina of Time 3D, June release
Iwata then came back on stage to reveal a new The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword logo and trailer:
New screenshots of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D were also released.
Nintendo is looping the presentation on their site made for the event as of this post if you missed it the first time.
I’m excited for Netflix on the 3DS, if only because I watch it quite a bit on my netbook.

The system that that Super Mario game was for isn’t listed. Could be 3DS. Although it might be on the Wii. Trying to think like Nintendo, it might be more likely headed for the 3DS since there’s no classic Mario title for it and the Wii already has several. Either way it’s looking pretty good. Kind of like a mix of 2D Mario and Super Mario 64 with a sprinkling of Galaxy.
A few thoughts on the other announcements. Netflix on 3DS is useless to me but good for whoever enjoys the service. Should have seen those “remastered” classics coming from a mile away. I’m really looking forward to 3D Video Recording. Probably wouldn’t make much use of it, but it’s a cool feature to have and would at least play around with it.
I agree with what that new Super Mario game looks like. I was talking to someone yesterday and they thought it was just the Galaxy engine. I thought it was SM64 on the Galaxy engine. Who knows! We’ll find out more at E3 I’m betting.
Strangely, even though no one was excited about the Netflix thing, that’s the way I felt about the 3D recording because I have my own 3D camcorder.
Oh, I wasn’t aware there were 3D camcorders available. I’ll just go back to living under my rock. Do you have a 3DTV to watch the footage in 3D as well?
It does look a lot like the Galaxy engine. The Goombas and the blocks look like they came straight out of those games. And looking closely, I see a Star Coin too.
Yeah, we’ll see what they’ll have to reveal at E3. What will they have for the floor about 2 months after the 3DS has been out?
Nope, I use NVIDIA 3D Vision on my 3D computer monitor.
