Pokémon Black/White Hits Sales Milestone In One Day

Nintendo of America announced today that the newest Pokémon adventure, Pokémon Black and White, managed to sell 1.08 million units in North America on its first day of availability. This makes them the fastest-selling Pokémon titles in history, beating out the previous record of 780,000 set by Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.

“These sales numbers illustrate the continued strength of the Nintendo DS family of systems. Already established as the nation’s best-selling video game platform of all time, the installed base of more than 47 million makes it the ideal hand-held for developers to reach a huge gaming-focused target audience,” said Charlie Scibetta, Nintendo of America’s senior director of Corporate Communications.

Pokémon Black and White is available now with a MSRP of $34.99.

I guess I underestimated how excited people were for Black/White; I could feel the Pokéfever in advance of HeartGold/SoulSilver, but this wave seems to have passed me by. Good to know that the property hasn’t lost its viability, at least.
