Nintendo 3DS Officially Launches In North America

The Nintendo 3DS, the next-generation handheld from Nintendo, has been officially released as of Sunday, March 27. The unit is capable of playing both 3DS and original DS games, and its wider top screen can display images in 3D without the need for glasses. A 3DS unit costs $249.99 and comes with the 3DS handheld, a charging cradle, a stylus, six AR (Augmented Reality) cards, and a 2GB SD card.

To celebrate the handheld launch, Nintendo held a major launch event in New York City, at the Best Buy in Union Square. Gamers in attendance were able to play the 3DS before it was officially released, and Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime was on hand to greet people and give away the very first 3DS system in the United States. Check out pictures of the event below.

I’d love to go to a big huge event like this for a console launch. Maybe one day I’ll be in New York City when the Wii 2 comes out or something like that.
