Mario Games Change Color, And DS Lite Changes Price

Nintendo announced today a couple of moves to hopefully boost Nintendo DS sales. Most significantly, the DS Lite line of hardware will be dropping in price to an even $99.99, starting June 5.

“From the moment it launched, Nintendo DS Lite hit a sweet spot for consumers in terms of value, experience and fun,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America. “This new price point will introduce Nintendo DS Lite to even more consumers, and the new red packaging will make it easy for them to find their favorite Mario titles.”

Additionally, select Mario titles will be receiving special red packaging, in order to stand out on the store shelves. New Super Mario Bros., Mario Kart DS, Super Mario 64 DS, Mario Party DS, Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story, Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem! and Mario Party DS will all be receiving this special packaging; all together, the games have sold over 27 million copies in the United States alone. These new cases will be shipping to stores right away.

The DS Lite price drop is quite welcome, but getting a price drop for first-party Nintendo games is a very difficult task, it seems.
