3DS Predicted to Beat DS First-Year Sales

Nintendo announced today that since its release in March, the Nintendo 3DS has sold 1.65 million units in the United States. The company also noted that the original Nintendo DS managed to sell 2.37 million units in its first two months, and half of those sales came from the holiday season. If the 3DS follows the same trend, the new handheld will outsell the original in terms of first-year sales.

“With a massive lineup of software on the way and the first-year sales record of Nintendo DS in its sights, Nintendo 3DS enters its first holiday season with a full head of steam,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing.

More sales information will be available when the full set of NPD sales numbers are revealed.

I think this helps the case that the 3DS doom and gloom stories are just sensationalism.
