Nintendo of America today has announced that the Nintendo 3DS system has gone over the four million sold mark. Helped by holiday sales, the handheld has sold more in the first nine months than the Wii. The company also highlighted Nintendo 3DS game sales with Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land becoming the first one million sellers for the handheld.
Skyward Sword also did well for itself, selling more than one million copies and becoming the 45th title to do so in the US. Other milestones for the company include New Super Mario Bros. and Mario Kart Wii, which have sold over ten and eleven million units respectively.
Of note, Nintendo has sold more than twelve million hardware units in 2011, which is the fifth year in a row they’ve accomplished this.
