3DS Sells Five Million, Breaks Japanese Record

Nintendo made an announcement earlier today on their Japanese press page, stating that the Nintendo 3DS had broken a Japanese sales record. The system managed to sell five million units to Japanese consumers in 52 weeks, faster than any other system on record. The previous record was held by the Game Boy Advance, which manage the feat in 56 weeks. Nintendo made sure to note that this number does not represent systems shipped to retailers, but units sold to actual customers.

I think we can officially say that the “doom and gloom” reports for the 3DS were just sensationalism; sales look pretty good to me.
