As part of their annual April Fool’s Day festivities, Google has given their Maps service an interesting “upgrade” that old-school gamers may enjoy. As seen above, a new Quest option at the Google Maps website transforms the map into a pixelated 8-bit world, similar to RPGs from years past. Viewers can see any region of the world in this new mode, at all levels of zoom; some areas even have interesting sprites to be found, if users look hard enough.

April Fool’s Day on the Internet has to be one of the best days of the year, because of stuff like this. I wonder how much time Google puts into their pranks.
