NOTE: some text has been added to the original review (2/9/08).

Short answer: yes.

Long answer: Super Mario Galaxy is one of the greatest games I’ve ever had the good fortune to play. The core gameplay is absolutely flawless, and all the other details have been polished to a mirror shine. If it weren’t for a few (very) minor issues, I would consider Galaxy to be perfect. Read on to find out why.

Our Rating for Review: Super Mario Galaxy
9.4
Single Player
3D platforming is better now than it’s ever been, and there’s tons of it. Minor rehashing gripes do little to mar this experience.
5.0
Multiplayer
While the second-player-with-a-remote thing works well, I still can’t get too excited about it.
9.0
Controls
Work flawlessly for the most part, including the auto-camera, but running on the underside of planets can sort of screw you up.
9.8
Graphics
This game really shows what the Wii can do, with no jaggies even in 480p. Spectacular art design really makes this game.
9.9
Sound
Every sound is spot-on, and the music is absolutely spectacular. Orchestrated tracks for certain levels are to die for.
8.3
Replay Value
There are 242 stars to get, potentially requiring 60 hours of your time before you’ve finished it 100%. And then you’ll want to do it again.
9.6
Overall
Platforming hasn’t been like this in decades. This is a must-buy for nearly all gamers.
