BWii also features online multiplayer, so I took those various modes for a spin. As is the standard for online Nintendo games, there is no "lobby", so you’re left with the system to match you up randomly with someone else. I never had any trouble finding a match, however, and the whole connection system went very fast. Also, while you can’t choose your random opponents, you can pick which person on your friend roster you’d like to play. Overall the process is very streamlined and quick.
There are three main online modes: co-op (you and a teammate work together to complete an objective), assault (you try to capture/destroy enemy facilities, while your opponent holds you back), and skirmish (kill as many enemy troops as possible). You select which one you want to play before you start, and you can also select which mission and which army you’d like to be. Since there are plenty of people who don’t care who’s doing what, you can find a quick match even when you’re being picky. When you’re in the actual match, everything runs along at a solid pace, with no lag or framerate drops, and the whole system generally works without a hitch. As far as online goes, there’s very little to complain about, except perhaps how often you’re getting your butt kicked.
