That said, there are a few presentation issues the game faces. The one that comes most readily to mind is the voice acting, which is really hit and miss. Some people, like the Frontier soldiers or the Anglos, sound just fine; others, like Kaiser Vlad, overact, and the Solar Empire is just completely out there. My personal favorite is Admiral A-Qira, who never was able to decide on an accent throughout the entire game, with hilarious results.

I also have to take issues with the replay value a little bit. After you complete a mission, you’ll be ranked S, A, B or C based on how well you did. The game encourages you to go for all S-ranks, but your reward for doing so is really nothing more than game art, which feels like a bit of a weak reward to me. This is especially so considering that once you beat the campaign mode, there’s really not much else to do as far as single-player goes; it doesn’t help that, no matter your mission ranks, you’ll be told you’re 100% done as soon as you finish the last mission.

Our Rating for Review: Battalion Wars II
8.6
Single Player
Entertaining strategy gameplay, as well as a very appropriate difficulty curve, though the ally AI will have you scratching your head.
8.0
Multiplayer
No local multiplayer, but online goes off without a hitch. Play against friends or strangers in three equally fun gaming modes.
8.0
Controls
The control scheme works quite effectively for the most part, but unfortunately it’s less than intuitive and will take a bit of time to master.
8.7
Graphics
The whole game looks very smooth even at 480p, with satisfactory art direction and a fair amount of different terrain to battle on.
6.4
Sound
The music, though not standing out, is enjoyable, while the voice acting is laugh-out-loud bad.
7.0
Replay Value
While the single-player doesn’t give you a lot of reason to go back, the multiplayer certainly does.
8.2
Overall
A genre not well explored on Wii, so pick this up for a fresh and fun gaming experience.
