6. Link and Marin (The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening)
Although their feelings for each other are purely speculation, you have to admit that there’s just something romantic about washing up on a mysterious beach and being saved by a cute girl. Throughout Link’s adventure on Koholint Island, you will spend plenty of quality time with Marin, learning new songs and listening to her long to see foreign lands. It would have been nice to see a relationship truly blossom between these two young dreamers, but alas, Link’s time with Marin was short… if she ever even existed in the first place.
5. Lady Timpani and Count Blumiere (Super Paper Mario)
These star-crossed lovers have a pretty bleak back-story compared to the rest of the happy-go-lucky Mushroom Kingdom. A regular Romeo and Juliet, these two were drawn to each other by a love that dare not speak its name – but were torn from each other by the world that would not accept it. Timpani became a butterfly named Tippi, while Blumiere, in his sorrow, renamed himself Count Bleck and set about destroying all worlds.
4. Crono and Marle (Chrono Trigger)
Crono and Marle don’t exactly get off to a good start. First, Marle disappears in a teleportation device, forcing Crono to go back in time to find her. Then, upon his return, he’s arrested and sentenced to death for her kidnapping. Ouch. However, I guess traveling millions of years through time would bring any couple closer together – no gamer will ever forget the moment where Marle throws her arms around the newly resurrected Crono. And hey, in the Playstation version, they even get married. Aww.
