To be honest, I really only picked this up to get a feel for a sub-genre that I never experienced (that being the Mystery Dungeon games). From what I saw prior to purchasing the game, it appeared to be boring and looked as though it would get old fast. I was pleasantly surprised.

The game opens with a personality test to figure out what Pokemon you are. It’s a bunch of fairly simple questions that you’d find on any Internet personality test. After this, it tells you to put your finger on the touch screen and it’d then reveal what you were (magically). Well after it didn’t register my finger the first 4 times I jammed my stylus on the screen and away I went. "Thou art a Mudkip, a rash Mudkip." To be honest I found this humorous because the question before it ended was “do you accidentally tell secrets?” to which I said ’no’ the description of my type ended with AND I BET YOU ACCIDENTALLY TELL YOUR FRIENDS SECRETS. After that it let me pick my partner, which cannot be of the same type as me. I choose Chikorita, because it was my starter from Gold and Chikorita is adorable.

With that the game begins. I’ll  sum the beginning up as quickly as possible: Partner finds you on beach, partner shows you their goods, goods are stolen, get goods back, partner wants you to be expedition buddies, you go get inducted, you have seizures, pedophile steals a baby, you save baby, and with that things...continue...in a....linear motion.

The story is honestly very well done. It has a few twists here and there and I was really surprised by how good it was. I don’t think I’ve enjoyed a story as much as I did this one in quite a long time. I don’t want to spoil anything so I’ll just leave it at that. There are 20 chapters to the game, which usually conclude once you go through a dungeon. There did seem to be some exceptions where a chapter merely ended after several cut scenes though.

Our Rating for Guest Review: Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time
9.0
Single Player
A very enjoyable experience with a wonderful story.
8.0
Multiplayer
If you include the rescuing of partners it’s not too different from a mission, though with this you can trade items and the like. Lengthy rescue passwords can be annoying, but the easy wifi codes make up for it.
9.0
Controls
Absolutely no problems with the controls (aside from not being able to move diagonally without the stylus).
8.5
Graphics
Simple, colorful, and vibrant.
8.5
Sound
Fantastic Soundtrack.
9.0
Replay Value
After the game is over, there’s still a ton to do.
9.2
Overall
I really enjoyed this game and will be probably playing it for quite a long time. It really surprised me with just about everything it presented.
