Now on to the gameplay. Aside from the story missions which are given to you, there are two boards you can pick missions from: the job request and outlaw boards. The former is composed of various requests ranging from "FOR THE LOVE OF GOD HELP ME" to "let’s explore a new area together," the former being either catch this crook or get someone’s stuff back. Each of the missions has semi-detailed information on it; who the client is, what the reward is, what you need to do, how difficult the mission is, what dungeon it’s in, whose ass you are kicking, etc. After accepting the jobs you can leave the town and select the area you want to go. If the area has missions you accepted a little envelope will appear by their name. Story mission locations are often denoted by a "!" next to the name. With that you enter the dungeon.

Every single dungeon in the game is randomly generated, so each time you enter you’ll be treated to a different experience. The dungeons themselves are fairly bland, but due to the fact that it’s never the same you don’t seem to mind the same scenery. The terrain also varies. There are puddles that only water-types can traverse, ghost-types seem to be able to pass through the walls, and I think the last type are chasms that flying-types can traverse. Usually, there is no reason to travel on them as they aren’t even mapped. Scattered across the floors of the dungeons are items your Pokemon can utilize. They range from berries to treasure chests.

Your Pokemon move about on their own. The best way to describe it is to think of a tactics game, except you can freely move about. Each step or action equals one turn. Enemy Pokemon wander about the dungeon and if you encounter them you can attack them. You have a regular attack and your moves. Some moves have different effects than their main series counterparts. The moves also have varying ranges and areas of effect. For example, tackle only hits what’s in front of you, string shot is a line of sight attack hitting the first enemy it runs into, and night shade is an attack that affects all enemies around the Pokemon using it. For the majority of the game you will be controlling the Pokemon you wound up being. You cannot give your partners orders(or I haven’t found anyway), but you can tell them what moves not to use. Your partners will typically attack when they can hit the enemy, but you can tell them to go after enemies by changing their tactics. Most of the game I made them stay close to me. I often had to try and arrange myself so that my partners could rattle off attacks with me. That probably wouldn’t have been a problem is I choose other tactics, but keeping them close seemed liked the best idea. Anyway, you exchange attacks until one of you is no longer moving (derr). If it’s the one you’re controlling, congratulations you’re dead. You can now either choose to give up all your money and the majority of your items or get rescued. If you chose the former you’re thrown out, the latter you go back to the main menu and can send out your SOS via wi-fi or password. If you’re saved you resume where you were and keep all your stuff. This can be very annoying.

Our Rating for Guest Review: Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time
9.0
Single Player
A very enjoyable experience with a wonderful story.
8.0
Multiplayer
If you include the rescuing of partners it’s not too different from a mission, though with this you can trade items and the like. Lengthy rescue passwords can be annoying, but the easy wifi codes make up for it.
9.0
Controls
Absolutely no problems with the controls (aside from not being able to move diagonally without the stylus).
8.5
Graphics
Simple, colorful, and vibrant.
8.5
Sound
Fantastic Soundtrack.
9.0
Replay Value
After the game is over, there’s still a ton to do.
9.2
Overall
I really enjoyed this game and will be probably playing it for quite a long time. It really surprised me with just about everything it presented.
