To keep going strong through events, you’ll need to take care of three aspects: happiness, fitness, and cleanliness. Every morning after you’ve completed 4 activities the previous day, you’ll need to feed your horse with hay or other feed you’ve purchased in the store. Picking the right food is important as some will reduce the level of fitness of your horse while others will make the animal sad. To bring the stats back up there are various ways to do so. One way to Keep your horse happy is simply by going out to the pasture and petting it. For cleanliness you can shampoo your animal and clean out the stall. If you’re looking to whip your horse into shape you can go for a ride on a trail.
The game play in Horse Life closely mimics that of Elite Beat Agents with the circle tapping and following arrows. This is not exactly the same however as it does not have a music timed element to it and circles can be hit in any order as they are not numbered. It is also much more forgiving if you slip. Difficulty can be increased by simply speeding up your horse and lowered by slowing down. This scalable difficulty can make it interesting in events such as the Steeplechase since jumps seem to come one right after another. The tapping isn’t the only game play Horse Life has to offer. Players also will be scrubbing and brushing their horse by touching and rubbing directly in the stables. Though this is a slight change in pace, it can get repetitive after awhile. If you don’t wish to do most of this, it can be avoided by going to the shop and buying salves for your horse. For those wanting to simply compete and not really have to spend quality time with your horse, this is a good solution. Unfortunately however while there is an easy time of keeping your horse happy and fit, you must always clean the animal. While it doesn’t take that much time to accomplish, it does count for an activity for the day, so planning your day out ahead of time may be wise.
