Paper Mario: TTYD
Well, made my way through the base. Those black X-naughts were a pain in the butt when there were a lot of them; they kept draining my health too fast. After I worked my way through finding the keys and stuff I finally got to Lord Crump. Died on my first try because he caught me off guard by shooting the audience members at me while I was weak. Got him the second time around, though I was close to dying again.
Wasn’t expecting another world or palace or whatever inside the thousand year door. I was just thinking the demon would be released out of there and I’d have to fight it. I got to the first save in here after a bit of work but some of these groups of ememies are dang tough, especially the dry bones when they just crumble into a pile and can still come back. I don’t have any life shrooms with me and I’m really wishing I did now, or at least some ultra shrooms. The super shrooms just don’t cut it. I died somewhere along the way not too far after the save....
Ok, so it was in that room full of dry bones that I died last time, sad I know. Took em out easily this time and moved on. Fighting the golden bullet bills was easy and it actually helped me gain a lot of life back since I’ve got the badge that makes more hearts appear after battles. Made my way to the maze room and worked my way through that and into the city-like place. First thing I did was save and fill up my health of course since Bobbery, one of my favorites (along with the yoshi), was KO’d.
The next thing I did was get into the tower and work my way through the little puzzles in each room and getting all of the keys. Didn’t have the star shaped thing, though, so it’s back out and to the right. After getting through several halls I end up in the room with a giant black dragon. Bobbery comments on it looking like Hook-Tail (how the heck would he know about that?) and of course it’s her big brother, Gloom-Tail. That’s not the "demon" is it? Anyway, I was pretty low on health at the start of the fight but I used the special move to fill a good chunk of it back up. I used up a lifeshroom I had gotten and a ultra shroom in the process, but I got him on my first try. Anyway, there was a few more goodies back behind him that I picked up before going back to save.
For the last couple of times I’ve played I’ve been thinking, "next time I’ll finish it, next time time I’ll finish it." Maybe this next time will really be it....
Alrighty, so I went and ended up going through some puzzly type stuff, nothing tough, just took some time. Found ol’ Grodus and wiped the floor with him quite easily. I used Vivian’s move where she sets fire to all enemies so that was able to help keep his little helper things outta the way while allowing me to focus Mario’s powerful attacks on him. Bowser decided to drop in then and, luckily, I was barely hurt so no problem there. He was a bit tougher (and I think I came close to losing), but I took him and the old hag out. Also, I made sure to not use up any items there so I still had several ultra and mega shrooms as well as some maple syrup and whatever that stuff is that replinishes 50fp is called.
So of course Peach has to be sacrificed to the demon. Never saw that coming. <_< Anyway, the first part fighting the Dark Queen in Peach’s body was easy and quick, but then I ended up spending too much time on the part where she’s invincible so I used up my only life shroom, which proved deadly in while fighting the final form.
My next try I was able to get through the first two parts without using my items, knowing that everything would be refilled come the final form (btw, waiting through that stuff again is a pain when you don’t care to watch it again). I basically used Mario’s spring jump which would take about 9hp off each time when done right. Also, as long as she had enough hp, I would have Vivian use that same move as I did with Grodus so as to keep those pesky hands from doing extra damage and/or siphoning health from me. Kept that up for a little while, used the sweet feast or whatever as well as a few items and took her out this time.
The ending, while alright, was kinda boring for me honestly. I kept thinking, "alright, come on now, hurry up." I dunno why, I just did. Apparently I can go back and play and it’s actually afterwards instead of starting all over or just being right before the fight. Dunno when I’ll do anything with that, though, sense I’m really wanting to take a chunk out of my backlog while I’ve got the extra time.
The game was pretty good, not outstanding or anything, but good. Definitely worth the $15 or whatever I paid for it. Got more time out of it than I thought I would too, clocking almost 30 hours, which can have a bit added to that for some unrecorded time. I should probably pick up Super Paper Mario sometime in the near future seeing as how most consider this to be the weakest of the three games and that the strongest.

Been working on the mirror cups. I haven’t gotten this frustrated at a game in a long time. I can take pure difficulty, something like Viewtiful Joe, but cheap crap like this just makes me want to hit something. They chuck items at you like CRAZY, especially once you get to the last lap. Some of the cups didn’t seem so bad, but the leaf, lightning, and special cups are relentless. I might just start working on time trial stuff just to get get away from the crap. I can’t imagine trying to get stars on mirror.
