Whoa, "most" people consider The Thousand Year Door the weakest and SPM the strongest? It’s the exact opposite to me. TTYD perfected Paper Mario’s already solid gameplay and added great, funny writing that persuaded me to fill two memory cards with completed save files. As for SPM, the art style was good, as well as parts of the writing...But I would have preferred a new RPG that took the same great Paper Mario formula even further. I dunno, I just think SPM is pretty bland. It was a fun, new spin on the generic 2D platformer, but I don’t think it ranks anywhere close to the other two games in the Paper Mario series.
SPM is my favorite in the series, but then, I’m not a huge fan of RPGs (but I LOVE Mario platformers). I just wish SPM had less talking and more (difficult) platforming.
After that is the original Paper Mario, and TTYD comes in at a dismal third. I loved the train chapter, I even liked the Rawk Hawk chapter. But I didn’t like the Peach stuff in this game (my favorite part from the first), and it just overall felt like been there, done that to me.
Just played through SotC on hard again. Was wanting to get myself into the mood to want to play Ico through for a second time so I figured I’d start here. I also found something kinda cool while exploring that I had, surprisingly, never seen before. *ICO SPOILERS*
In the south-west side of the map, I had gone to a cliff overlooking the ocean and decided to climb the save shrine there for a better view. I happened to look down and I saw a beach that looked different from the other stuff you see down in the ravines, like you can actually go down there. Then I happened to look back and there it was, a path that led down to it. Looks just like the beach at the end of Ico from what I remember. It doesn’t do anything of course, but still a cool little something.

Did a few time trial runs, unlocked Funky and some new bikes/cars. I also went back and did a few cups on 50cc to try and get all stars. On the couple that I did I got two stars on each, so now I’ve got three more I think in 50cc to do. I just realized really how much stuff you can do to unlock things in this game. At least they give you a reason to do all that stuff unlike some other games.
