Nintendo 64: Pokémon Puzzle League, 1,000 Wii Points
This Nintendo 64 game bases its gameplay on the popular SNES title Tetris Attack, which has yet to hit the Virtual Console. Use your cursor to switch blocks around, and line up three or more to eliminate them; to take it a step further, try to set up chains and combos for massive points. This game is adorned with several puzzle modes, including 3D, as well as a story mode with cutscenes featuring original animation and voice acting.
NES: Renegade, 500 Wii Points
This 1986 NES title started the brawler genre, which would include games such as Double Dragon and River City Ransom. As is the standard, your girlfriend has been kidnapped, and apparently the entire city wants to stop you, so you’ll have to punch and kick your way through numerous enemies to get her back. Unfortunately, it is without the innovations of its successors; each button makes you face a different direction to attack, and stages do not scroll continuously. You may want to look into this before delving in.
It may be the original brawler, but I have to wonder how well Renegade has aged. Puzzle League, though, I enjoyed a lot back in the day. Rather amusing Tetris Attack clone.
