A lawsuit between Nintendo of America and Anascape Ltd., a Texas-based company, ended in Anascape’s favor today, proclaimed the law firm of McKool Smith. Nintendo was made to pay $21 million to Anascape due to patent infringement involving controllers for both the Gamecube and the Wii; the press release did not specify exactly what technologies Nintendo infringed upon. Lead counsel Doug Cawley stated that "Anascape may be a tiny company compared to Nintendo, but today’s verdict confirms that the company’s technology is second to none." Nintendo plans to appeal the verdict, hoping at least to not have to pay such a great sum.
I find it delightfully ironic that Nintendo’s innovative and new controller caused a patent lawsuit.
