With last week’s release of WiiWare, Nintendo has started performing WiiWare updates and Virtual Console updates on the same day; hence, NintendoGal has reverted to Nintendo’s "Wiikly Update" moniker.
WiiWare: Critter Round-Up, 1,000 Wii Points
This puzzle game, developed by Konami, challenges you to keep your animals corralled by building fences around them before they escape. You’ll be quickly mending fences as you tackle over 50 puzzles in various locations. For multiplayer fun, up to four people can play competitively or cooperatively in the main game, or in one of four mini-games.
WiiWare: Star Soldier R, 800 Wii Points
The classic schmup series returns with Star Soldier R. You’ve got either two minutes or five minutes to plan your strategy and get the highest score possible, which you can then upload to the world leaderboard. As you play, you can collect various powerups in the game world to power yourself up and take out more enemies.
NES: Skykid, 500 Wii Points
This 1986 schmup puts you in the pilot seat of the Red Baron’s plane, as he takes on his rival, Blue Max. As you shoot down enemies using moves like the loop-the-loop, you’ll also be grabbing bombs to destroy installations on the ground to complete your mission. Two players can play competitively or cooperatively.
Criitter Round-Up looks like it could be pretty good, if the puzzles are done well. Star Soldier R’s time-attack-only format, though, is likely to turn people like me off.
