WiiWare: Dr. Mario Online Rx, 1,000 Wii Points
The classic puzzle franchise returns with an upgrade as Dr. Mario Online Rx. The original single-player mode returns, as well as two battle modes, but the main feature is the online multiplayer, where you can play against one other opponent from around the world. You can also battle friends, even if they don’t have the game - you can send them a Friend Battle Demo of the game. Virus Buster, the Dr. Mario clone from Brain Age 2 is also back, as you and up to three other players can use the Wii Remote to take out as many viruses as you can.
WiiWare: Family Table Tennis, 500 Wii Points
This budget-priced title is just as it seems - a table tennis game designed for the family to enjoy. Players use the Wii Remote to control their ping-pong paddle on one of four selectable courts; duke it out in single player mode, or challenge friends and family in the two-player multiplayer. This game also comes with three ping-pong-based minigames.
NES: City Connection, 500 Wii Points
In this game, you’re off to tour the world, and you want to leave your mark - literally. City Connection challenges you to travel along a series of roads in five cities, painting every last bit of it white as you drive by. As you try to coat every inch, you’ll be chased by police cars, and you’ll have to avoid cats on the road. Drop a barrel of oil to make your enemies spin out.
Neo Geo: Metal Slug, 900 Wii Points
This classic side-scrolling shooter puts you in the boots of Marco and Tarma, of the elite military group Team Peregrine Falcon, as you blast your way through waves of enemies in order to try and recapture the armored tank Metal Slug. As you battle, you’ll come across more powerful weaponry, avoid traps, and occasionally take a ride in a Metal Slug and do some serious damage. This game famously allows for two-player co-op play.
It’s good to see that online is happening for these WiiWare games; Pop also has online multiplayer, and so will upcoming Bomberman and Tetris games (which I hope come to America). More third parties need to take advantage of the Wii’s better features.
