WiiWare: Protothea, 1,000 Wii Points
This PC shooter port tasks you with destroying the asteroid Maqno 01 and retrieving the plans for The Core. In a control setup reminiscent of Geometry Wars: Galaxies, you’ll control your ship with the analog stick, which can fire in all directions based on where you point with the Wii Remote. Your arsenal includes the ability to slow down time for a little bit, in addition to other bonus items, as you blast through four worlds and ten missions.
WiiWare: Toki Tori, 1,000 Wii Points
This puzzle/platformer hybrid puts you in the shoes of Toki Tori (roughly translates to "Time Chicken"), as you travel about 70 levels collecting eggs. As you progress through the game, you’ll collect different items to help you through the levels, such as the Telewarp, InstantRock, and Slug Sucker. Additionally, a second player can pick up a Wii Remote and draw hints on the screen to help you through the game’s increasingly brain-teasing levels.
Neo Geo: Ninja Combat, 900 Wii Points
Ninja Combat is a side-scrolling action game a la Final Fight; as the ninja Joe, you’ll battle through a legion of evil ninjas known as the Kaze Ichizoku ("Family of the Wind", roughly). As you fight, you’ll collect weapons and items to help you, or unleash special attacks to damage all enemies on screen; additionally, other characters will join your quest, and you’ll get to choose who you play as before each stage. Another player can play alongside you, as the ninja Hayabusa.
IGN gives Protothea a 5.4, saying it generally lacks polish and is dull. Nintendo seems to be rather developer-friendly, but I can’t help but think that they can do a little more for the consumers who buy the games. Recommendations on the Nintendo Channel is an okay start, but I think we need more. And we need a bloody storage solution.
