Leo Burnett Worldwide, a famous ad agency, won the Grand Effie yesterday at the Effie Awards, for its "Wii would like to play" marketing campaign for Nintendo. The Effie Awards are awarded to innovative and effective marketing campaigns every year, and the Wii’s push to expand the reach of gaming led to Leo Burnett receiving this honor. Deborah Meyer, Chair of the Grand Effie Jury and Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at Chrysler, stated that “Leo Burnett’s marketing strategy for the Wii will forever change the gaming industry and its dialogue with consumers.” Leo Burnett won out over four other contenders for the prize, they being advertisers for the Keep A Child Alive campaign, General Electric, Kleenex, and Jack in the Box.
A well-deserved award, I think. What Nintendo has been doing has been seriously working. Plus, I love listening to that music and watching those two guys drive around in that tiny car. Effective advertising, indeed.
