Over at the official Capcom Blog, a photo has popped up that at first glance makes users think the packaging for Mega Man 9 has gone back to its roots.

Instead of joyful cheer, there were bouts of jealousy since this package will be given out to select press outlets only for the time being.  It is not yet known whether or not Capcom will ever make this set available, although the blog post states the company is looking into offering 200 ironically through usage of PlayStation Network or Xbox Live Arcade.

The game will not be packaged and will be released on console digital platforms such as WiiWare.

This is some of the best packaged art assets that have been sent to press that I’ve seen.  It’s a shame that it doesn’t need a box.
