Nintendo’s Game Developer’s Conference presentations don’t begin for a few hours, but that didn’t stop Nintendo from offering up some game information regarding WiiWare and Wii Fit.
WiiWare will launch in North America on May 12, with games downloadable through the Wii Shop Channel. Games currently in development for WiiWare are Square Enix’s Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King, LostWinds by Frontier, and a new IP episodic series from the creators of Sam & Max, Telltale. No price point was set, and presumably each game will vary in price. Nintendo still has made no mention of how (or if) they plan to handle space constraints, given the size of the Wii’s internal memory.
A bit more information was offered up on Wii Fit, including a launch date: May 19. Reggie Fils-Aime also commented in an interview to IGN that it would retail for "under $100". Other interesting information includes eight data slots per game, and the inclusion of a Wii Fit Channel, which allows you to check your BMI and Wii Fit Age without needing to pop in the actual Wii Fit game disc. No plans for WiFi were shown, however, and the game is going to be one player at a time (or one controller, at least).
There was also information presented on Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but nothing we haven’t seen before.
I’m excited to see what developers can do with WiiWare; Telltale’s episodic thing looks especially interesting.
