Although I didn’t get to sample Tetris Party for long, it was a welcome change of pace to me and the other females gathered around to play. Competition generally is fierce when ever I’ve played Tetris but the relaxed atmosphere made it an enjoyable experience.
During the session, it was a free for all play meaning, every woman for herself. If you’ve played Tetris DS, it’s quite similar in regards to controls. The only real differences are the power-up usage button which is triggered by the B button and the hold piece by using A. Also worth noting is the fact you’ll probably want to hold the controller sideways to play.
Using attacks on other players seemed a bit more vicious than other Tetris games I’ve played in the past. One in particular stopped time for the other players making it so they couldn’t do anything. This can become costly if the person using it is quick enough to rid themselves of a few lines, thus stacking more lines on other players. Another attack clouded the field of vision so everyone else needed to shake their controller to clear it away. Not a huge deal, except it delays you from making moves.
There are numerous versions of Tetris available and it’s nice to see one set itself apart from the others. I believe this version is one that can appeal to both casuals and hardcore Tetris fans just due to the numerous amount of modes. I’ll be looking forward to the release of this one, so have those Friend Codes ready to trade with me!
Unlike numerous others around the internet, I had never head of Cave Story prior to the announcement at the summit. After my brief sampling of the game I’m not sure why it’s so highly regarded.
I had the misfortune to begin playing the game no where near the beginning and with no explanation. It wasn’t hard to figure out how to move around and shoot, but I didn’t know why I was doing such a thing. I’d use my weapon which I assume was a gun to blow up blobs that were headed in my direction. When I destroyed them they’d drop what appeared to be Triforce shaped power-ups but I saw no benefit. Some sections had enemies that could destroy you with just one touch and I learned to avoid them by timing my runs just right.
Admittedly, it was fun to jump around and destroy things back and forth for awhile. Unfortunately since that was the only action I really performed I can’t say much about the game for now. Perhaps with a fresh start when it releases I’ll be able to understand everything that’s going on.
I had heard of Sam & Max when I was younger and watching Saturday morning cartoons. While watching the ads I knew it was a show, but had no idea it was originally a comic. Now it’s a game that’s currently available for PC and is coming soon for Wii. It seems all this time I’ve missed an amusing romp of humor and fun.
Although I didn’t play myself, I had an enjoyable time watching the game being played. The demonstrator showed me the basic ins and outs to the game and described the characters. Sam being the straight shooter dog who’s calm and collected and Max, his crazy bunny partner who loves to make off the wall remarks. Both are freelance police and are out to patrol the streets in search of criminals. As this game is billed as somewhat of a sitcom there’s tons of dialog which is flavored with the extreme opposites of Sam and Max’s personalities.
The game plays just like an old click adventure game. You point with the Wii Remote where you want the character to go or what they should interact with. Exploring the area you’re in seems to play a big part in the game to figure out what needs to be done next in order to advance. Backtracking will need to be done but with the varied dialog it doesn’t feel as if you’re doing so as much as heading back to the office to examine facts.
It occurred to me while watching this game in action that it might actually be an awesome friend gathering title. Sure, not everyone can pick up a controller and play, but they can help figure out pieces to the puzzle and help the story advance. If I get the chance to play this all the way through I’ll be sure to invite some friends over to check it out with me.
Editor’s note: I didn’t get a chance to play SBCG4AP Episode 3 since I haven’t played the first two and was run through those. With that said, if you enjoy Strong Bad E-mails, I can’t think of a reason to not at least check out the first game. Media for the latest episode however has been uploaded so be sure to check it out!
