WiiWare: World of Goo, 1,500 Wii Points
Made by two employees at 2D Boy, World of Goo is a physics-based puzzler that challenges you to use balls of goo to construct structures such as bridges, zeppelins, or catapults in order to get your goo to the exit point in the level. Featuring over 40 levels, World of Goo also plans to feature downloadable content in the future.
WiiWare: Art Style: Cubello, 600 Wii Points
Cubello is the next game in Nintendo’s first-party series of simple, artistic games. You begin with a large series of cubes compacted into a Cubello, and as it rotates, you fire more cubes at it in an attempt to connect four of the same color and make them disappear; try to expose the core to win the round. Play in Stage mode or Endless mode.
SNES: Secret of Mana, 800 Wii Points
One of the most popular RPGs on the SNES, Secret of Mana featured unique elements such as a real-time battle system and clever in-game selection menus. As you quest to find the hidden seeds of the Mana tree, be warned that "things are not as they seem. Magic swords release evil as well as fight it. Treasure chests hold booby traps. Monsters are friends and friends are enemies." Up to three players can play.
Genesis: Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition
This title is the first Street Fighter title to hit the Sega Genesis, including the Champion and Hyper rulesets from the two respective arcade machines. In addition to standard single-player and multiplayer modes, this edition introduced the Group Battle mode that eventually became a staple of fighting games.
I’m pretty sure all these re-releases of Street Fighter 2 were annoying even back when they first came out. Otherwise, an excellent batch of games this week.
