KORG, one of the best musical instrument producers in the world, is teaming up with AQ Interactive and Procyon Studios to deliver the KORG DS-10 Synthesizer, a music-creation device exclusively for the Nintendo DS based on the MS-10 Synthesizer. Some of the key features include:
-A six-track/16-step sequencer (two tracks for audio synth, four tracks for the drum machine)
-Top-quality sounds provided by KORG
-Intuitive touch-screen controls that "can be appreciated by the complete novice as well as the seasoned professional"
-The ability to link multiple DS units together, sharing music or creating larger pieces with more audio tracks
The official website offers this audio demonstration of a piece created with one DS unit, and you can check out a YouTube video of the device in action.
The device will be released in Japan this July, at a price of 4800 yen (approximately 46.88 USD). There are currently no plans for a US release, but DS-owning musicians should keep in mind that the Nintendo DS is region-free; perhaps this software will be as well.
You really need to see the YouTube video to get a sense of what using this device is like; it’s really weird but looks highly awesome at the same time. I’d like to get my hands on that.
