One month later, Nintendo is back on top as far as hardware goes, selling nearly twice as many units. Sales of Super Mario Galaxy and Mario Party DS have slumped, while the DS version of Mario and Sonic is enjoyed increased success. According to NeoGAF, this month’s software sales were $668.7 million, a 47% increase over last year’s already phenomenal numbers. Hardware sales were also up, with a 19% increase over last year (while last year was a 60% increase over the previous year). Video games have just been on the constant climb for an amazingly long time; given the hardware sales we’re seeing here, I blame Nintendo’s reaching out to new consumers. Nintendo also put out a press release regarding their performance, with some general horn-tooting and some additional sales numbers.
